H4K-IT
is a cybersecurity community that is based in Tanzania which started in
December 2019. On April 2020 we managed to launch our community in whats app for cybersecurity experts and likeminded
people could interact could meet and discuss cybersecurity trends, network and
share opportunities, currently we have 98 members from different technological
backgrounds from system administrators, network administrator, database administrator
and many other more, we are proud that among the 98 members we have more than
10 active members who are women which shows the diversity that we have in the
community.
On 11/12/2020 we hosted a CTF game that had run for 24 hours, and we had individuals from different parts of Africa participate in the competition.
After 24 hours of hacking, we managed to get 3 winners of Game of Hacks, our first winner was from Tanzania Second winner was from Kenya and our third winner was from Ethiopia.
We tried to host the main event on the same year but it was not feasible at that time so we decided to push it to the following year which was on 2021.
This year we managed to do a rebranding of our CTF logo and came up with a permanent logo. On November 2021 we hosted yet another CTF competition where we had more than 70 individuals who registered for the competitions
we managed to get 3 winners of Game of Hacks, our first winner was from Kenya Second winner was from Tanzania and our third winner was from Tanzania.
We made improvements this year on our CTF where instead of just announcing the top 3 winners we also managed to include the top 10 candidates.
As you can see this year-round we had all nationalities even all the way from China who secured 6th position.
This year we finally managed to host the main event which was hosted at the British council and we also managed to secure a sponsor for the event which was a company called SESC.
During the main event, we managed to have a panellist discussion with cybersecurity professionals who talked about their experience in the industry and shed light on the audience about cybersecurity. We also discussed the future of cybersecurity in Tanzania and many other more topics.
We officially launched the first cybersecurity event in Tanzania and it was a great success here locally.
